Tiger middle blocker garners preseason honor for second straight year
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Volleyball senior MB Alyssa Munlyn (Suwanee, Ga.) was named to the 2018 Preseason Volleyball All-Southeastern Conference Team, announced Thursday by the league office.
Munlyn was recognized by the SEC head coaches for the second consecutive year, as she also garnered 2017 Preseason All-Conference honors. The Tigers have had at least one representative on the preseason list every year since joining the SEC (2012-present).
"We're very happy and pleased for Alyssa," Mizzou Volleyball head coach Wayne Kreklow said. "She has been a great representative of Mizzou Volleyball both on-and-off the court. She's a great example of everything that is right in collegiate athletics. Alyssa is a very talented athlete, a great student and a caring and compassionate human being. We're all very proud!"

Munlyn enters the 2018 campaign seeking her fourth straight AVCA All-America honor. Currently, she's tied with former Tigers Carly Kan (2013-16) and Lisa Henning (2010-13) for the most individual All-American recognitions in program history. The talented trio each produced three AVCA All-America awards over their respective careers.
A season ago, Munlyn reset Mizzou's all-time single-season individual total blocks record for the third consecutive year. The dominating Tiger middle blocker finished with 189 total blocks (30 solo), surpassing her previous program record of 153 blocks in her 2016 sophomore campaign.
Munlyn also starred on the offensive side of the ball, as her .381 hitting percentage ranked fifth in the SEC and 26th overall in the NCAA. Additionally, her 277 kills and 386.5 points re-established new single-season career-highs.
Mizzou opens its 2018 campaign with three consecutive non-conference road tournaments. Up first is a trip to Harrisonburg, Virginia, for the James Madison Invitational from Aug. 24-25. The Tigers' 2018 home opener is slated for Sept. 14 against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi.
