COLUMBIA, Mo. – A total of 71 University of Missouri student-athletes will participate in graduation ceremonies this weekend as part of the University's commencement exercises.
The football program leads the way with 14 graduates, followed by men's track and field with eight, women's track and field with seven, women's swimming and diving with six, men's swimming and diving and wrestling with five, gymnastics and soccer with four, women's basketball, softball and tennis with three, men's basketball with two and baseball, men's golf and women's golf with one.
University of Missouri student-athletes continue to excel in the classroom, according to the most-recent data compiled by the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Six Mizzou teams; baseball, women's basketball, women's golf, gymnastics, women's tennis and volleyball, registered Southeastern Conference-leading Graduation Success Rate (GSR) scores in their respective sports, and five other programs ranked among the league's top three in their respective sport. Mizzou's GSR of 91 ranked third in the SEC behind Vanderbilt (96) and South Carolina (93). The score is a three-point improvement over last year's then-record tying score of 88, and marked the 11th-consecutive year it either improved or matched its previous year score.
Additionally, 53 percent of Mizzou's student-athletes recorded grade point averages (GPA) of 3.0 or higher in the Fall 2017 semester, all while logging more than 4,800 hours of community service with more than 55 organizations in Columbia and its surrounding communities.
