DES MOINES, Iowa – Mizzou Track & Field continued competition on the second day of Drake Relays Friday with four top-five finishes, led by redshirt junior Gabi Jacobs (Bloomington, Ill.) who finishes runner-up in the discus. Jacobs improved remarkably from her finish in the discus at the 2017 Drake Relays, where she finished seventh.
NOTABLE TIGERS
On a windy day at Drake Stadium, Jacobs recorded her sixth top-three finish of the season in the discus, as she finished second with a toss of 55.26m (181-3) with her second throw. Jacobs led for the majority of the event before Purdue's Micaela Hazlewood took over the top spot with her final throw. The throw was Jacobs' third-best of the season, ranking behind her throws of 58.11m (190-8) at the Tom Botts Invitational (April 21) and 55.42m (181-10) at the John McDonnell Invitational (April 14).
In the men's 4x800m relay, Mizzou's team of redshirt senior Ben Goodman (Colorado Springs, Colo.), senior Mark Sheridan (Ballwin, Mo.), freshman Chris Conrad (O'Fallon, Ill.) and redshirt freshman Robert Kuhlmann (Lake Villa, Ill.) led for parts of the final lap before finishing third at 7:31.30. Mizzou sat in fifth place after two legs when Conrad took the baton and split a 1:49.23 to elevate the Tigers to third-place.
Redshirt junior Will Fife (Jefferson City, Mo.) and junior Landon Cuskelly (El Dorado, Kan.) also posted top-five finishes of the day for the Tigers. Fife finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 18.09m (59-4.25), the second-best toss of his career, while Cuskelly cleared 2.08m (6-9.75) in the high jump to finish fifth.
