The Tigers accomplished the feat for the first time in program history
HOOVER, Ala. – Mizzou Women's Golf clinched a spot in the Match Play Quarterfinals on Saturday after moving up to eighth place in the final opening round of the SEC Women's Golf Championship. It marks the first time in program history that the Tigers have advanced to match play at the SEC Championships. The Tigers posted 7-over par (295) for the day Friday after shaving 13 strokes off from their previous round at the Greystone Golf and Country Club.
The Tigers snagged the final slot entering into match play, which will begin Saturday at 7 a.m. CT with semifinals immediately following. The Black & Gold beat out three ranked programs (No. 37 Ole Miss, No. 35 Texas A&M and No. 43 Tennessee) to secure the quarterfinals spot.
Junior Emma Allen (Southampton, England) led the Tigers on Friday recording 1-over for the day. The England native had a spectacular front nine posting 2-under, but finished with a final nine of 3-over. Allen finished T-21st through 54 holes.
Also making a comeback, senior Clara Young (North Berwick, Scotland) finished her day 1-over as well on Friday. The senior moved up eight slots on the individual leaderboard to claim T-55th. Young knocked 12 strokes off from her previous round and tallied her 13th round shooting sub-75 this year. Junior Cayce Hendrickson fired a 3-over 75 on Friday to tie for 39th place.
Sophomore Jess Yuen (Bolingbrook, Ill.) posted 2-over through 18 for her final opening round. The standout sophomore kept her scorecard even for most of the day barring two bogeys on the back nine. Yuen wound up 12th on the individual leaderboard.
