The Tigers fired a 16-over par as a team Wednesday
HOOVER, Ala.-- Mizzou Women's Golf finished a strong Day One of the SEC Women's Golf Championship in Hoover, Alabama. The Tigers sit in sixth overall at 16-over par in front of five ranked teams, including No. 20 Auburn.
The Tigers turn their focus to the second round tomorrow in hopes of qualifying for the quarterfinals on Saturday. Day Two will begin Thursday at 8 a.m. CT with a second 18 holes of shotgun play at the Greystone Golf and Country Club.
"We had a great finish on our back nine which was actually the front side at Greystone," head coach Stephanie Priesmeyer said. "The wind was tough all day and we had to make a few adjustments on our approach shots due to the firmness of the greens and I believe we did a nice job of adjusting as the day went on. It is so important to stay clear of big numbers and for the most part today we did a good job of keeping the ball in play and out of trouble. Tomorrow the wind will shift and a cool front will come through. We look forward to the challenge and the opportunity.
Mizzou is competing against a talented field consisting of six teams that all rank within the GolfStat Top-25 rankings. The Black & Gold squad is just five strokes behind No. 13 Florida, who sits in fifth overall.
Sophomore Jess Yuen (Bolingbrook, Ill.) is already off to a great start as she sits just 2-over and T-13th. The Illinois native looks to snag another top-20 finish on the individual leaderboard. Yuen sits only five strokes back from the lead after Day One.
Not far down the leaderboard, junior Emma Allen (Southampton, England) also had a solid first day in Hoover turning in a score of 3-over and a spot at T-18th. In her final SEC Championships, senior Clara Young fired a 5-over 77 and is tied for 32nd after 18 holes. Junior Cayce Hendrickson shot a 78 on Wednesday at the Greystone Golf and Country Club.
