@MizzouWrestling in Second Place at Cliff Keen Invitational After Strong Day One

Lewis, Eierman and Erneste into semifinals, which will take place Saturday

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Mizzou Wrestling wrapped up a strong performance at day one of the Cliff Keen Invitational Friday by putting three wrestlers into the semifinals while finishing in second place in the team standings as the championship brackets move into the semis. Mizzou has 77.5 total points, trailing first-place Ohio State by 1.5. The Tigers have eight grapplers still alive in their respective weight classes, including three in the championship bracket. Advancing to the semifinals were John Erneste (133), Jaydin Eierman (141) and Daniel Lewis (174).

Erneste picked up three pins on his way to the semifinals to highlight a dominant day for him. He will meet top-ranked Nick Suriano of Rutgers tomorrow in the semis. Eierman had two pins and used a 3-2 decision in the quarters to move to the semis. Lewis had two falls and a major on his way to the finals.

The Tiers trail Ohio State, which has seven wrestlers still alive, including six in the championship bracket. Mizzou is ahead of Northern Iowa, which is third with 62 points and six wrestlers still alive. Action will resume tomorrow beginning with the consolation rounds at 11 a.m. (CT) and the semifinals at noon. The championship finals will be at 5 p.m. (CT).
