Four Tigers named All-SEC, one receives All-Freshman accolades
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following a successful 2018 regular season campaign, five individuals from Mizzou Volleyball were honored in the Southeastern Conference postseason awards, announced Sunday by the league office.
The five SEC postseason award recipients marks a new Mizzou record since it joined the conference in 2012. The 2017 and 2013 Tiger squads held the previous standard with four honors apiece.
Senior MB Alyssa Munlyn, sophomore OH Kylie Deberg, sophomore RS Dariana Hollingsworth and sophomore OH Leketor Member-Meneh received 2018 All-SEC accolades, while redshirt freshman S Andrea Fuentes was named to the 2018 SEC All-Freshman Team.
"It's an honor to have five players from our team be recognized by league coaches for their outstanding play," Mizzou Volleyball head coach Wayne Kreklow said. "I certainly feel like each of them deserve this recognition. I think it's also very important to recognize the fact that none of these individuals would be recognized for their personal performance without the efforts of the entire team. I think it speaks volumes about our team as a whole and how far we have come as a group with so many new and young players. We're very proud of the growth of our entire group!"
Sunday afternoon's announcement gives Mizzou 17 all-time All-SEC award winners and five all-time SEC All-Freshman recognitions. Munlyn was named in the SEC postseason awards all four years at Mizzou, becoming the first Tiger ever to accomplish the feat.
Member-Meneh earns her second-straight SEC postseason accolade, following All-Freshman Team honors in 2017. Deberg, Hollingsworth and Fuentes all received their first career SEC postseason awards.
Munlyn enjoyed her typical standout season in 2018, ranking top three in the SEC in solo blocks, blocks per set, total blocks, block assists and hitting percentage. Earlier this year, Munlyn tallied her 600th career total block, becoming only one of six SEC players since 2001 to eclipse the impressive total.
Deberg was one of the SEC's top offensive threats in 2018, placing top five in the conference in kills, aces, aces per set and points. Nationally, her 57 total aces ranked sixth in the country while her 0.50 aces per set ranked eighth-best. In her first season in Tiger black and gold, Deberg opened her Mizzou career with 11 consecutive 10-plus kill matches. Overall, she produced double-digit kills in 26 of 30 matches this regular season.
Hollingsworth ranked second on Mizzou this year with six double-doubles. She particularly shined in SEC only play, performing above her season averages in several categories. Her 230 points in conference action ranked second on Mizzou. Overall this season, she reset new single-season career-highs in virtually every major offensive and defensive category.
Fuentes received four weekly awards by the SEC office this season, highlighted by Week Seven Setter of the Week accolades. The San Juan native paced Mizzou with 11 double-doubles this season, as the total ranked tied for sixth in the SEC. The Tigers switched to a 5-1 offense featuring Fuentes at setter in their final 14 matches and the team responded with an impressive 11-3 record while she recorded nearly 11.00 assists per set.
Member-Meneh was a consistent offensive threat for Mizzou throughout the regular season, tallying 16, 10-plus kill matches. The mark was a step up from her 2017 All-Freshman campaign, where she posted 10 double-digit kill matches. In 2018, the St. Louis native ranked second on Mizzou in kills, kills per set and points.
