Tiger setter earns fourth award from SEC office this year
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Volleyball redshirt freshman S Andrea Fuentes was named the Week 12 Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.
"We're very proud of the work that Andrea put in this past week," Mizzou Volleyball head coach Wayne Kreklow said. "She continues to improve and get better and that certainly helps our team. She's doing a nice job of distributing the ball, but is also getting better at the other parts of her game, such as serving, defense and blocking."

The honor marks Fuentes' team-leading fourth weekly award by the SEC office this year. In addition to Monday afternoon's recognition, Fuentes was named the Week 10 SEC Co-Freshman of the Week, Week Nine SEC Freshman of the Week and Week Seven SEC Setter of the Week earlier this season.
Fuentes enjoyed another strong week at setter, aiding Mizzou's perfect 2-0 record on the court. She produced 11.71 assists per set in victories at Auburn (Nov. 7) and against Georgia (Nov. 11).
Fuentes opened her week with 43 assists in only three sets played at Auburn, as Mizzou hit .337 collectively. It marked the 11th time this year that the Tigers finished with a .300-plus group hitting percentage. Seven of those 11 matches have occurred since Mizzou switched to a 5-1 offense and featuring Fuentes at setter.
The San Juan native has tallied 40-plus assists in five of her past six matches played, all coming in SEC play. Fuentes' 10.40 assists per set in SEC only action ranks third in the conference. Since the Tigers moved to a 5-1 offense on Oct. 5, they own an impressive 10-1 record while Fuentes is producing 11.24 assists per set.
Mizzou has received nine total weekly awards by the SEC office this season. Along with Fuentes' aforementioned four awards, sophomore OH Kylie Deberg has three recognitions on her 2018 resume, while senior MB Alyssa Munlyn and sophomore OH Leketor Member-Meneh each have one weekly SEC accolade.
