Mizzou is bowl eligible for the second straight year under third-year head coach Barry Odom
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Football rallied from down 11 to defeat Vanderbilt, 33-28, Saturday afternoon (Nov. 10) at Memorial Stadium. Mizzou trailed 28-26 going into the fourth quarter, but a huge fourth-and-goal stop from the one-yard-line by Mizzou's defense swung momentum back to the home team. Mizzou then scored on its ensuing drive courtesy of a three-yard rush from senior QB Drew Lock to take the lead for good.
Mizzou improves to 6-4 on the year and 2-4 in SEC play and is bowl eligible for the second consecutive season. Mizzou head coach Barry Odom will be just the fourth Mizzou coach ever – Dan Devine, Don Faurot and Warren Powers – to take Mizzou to a bowl game in two of his first three seasons.
Lock moved into third place on the SEC's career passing yards list in the win and junior RB Damarea Crockett tallied his third career 100-yard game of the season and ninth in his career.
TURNING POINT
As the quarter turned from the third to the fourth, Mizzou's defense saw the team trailing 28-26 with Vanderbilt knocking on the door, facing a fourth-and-goal from the one. Mizzou's defensive line bowed up and held the Commodores out of the end zone. Mizzou then took the ball on the ensuing possession and went 99 yards in 5:38. The 14-play drive was capped by a three-yard TD rush by QB Drew Lock, which gave Mizzou a 33-28 lead with 9:18 remaining.
The Commodores would get their chance to win the game, though, having the ball on Mizzou's 25-yard line with just five seconds to go. The 'Dores took their shot to the end zone, but the ball was batted down, and the Tigers secured their sixth win of the season.
TOP TIGERS
- Mizzou sophomore RB Damarea Crockett scored two TDs, one on the ground and another through the air, and he totaled 137 all-purpose yards. He carried the ball 22 times for 122 yards and a score and caught one pass, an 11-yard screen for a TD, his second career receiving TD. Saturday marked the first time that a Mizzou player had a rushing and receiving TD in the same game since 2013 when Marcus Murphy did so in the SEC Championship Game.
- Crockett went over 100 yards for the third time this season and ninth time in his career.
- Freshman TE Daniel Parker Jr. tallied his first career TD grab, a 20-yard strike from Drew Lock. A converted DE, Parker made three catches for 42 yards, both career-bests.
- Senior QB Drew Lock completed 22-of-33 passes for 253 yards and two touchdowns. He moved into solo possession of third place on the SEC's all-time career passing yards list as he now has 11,342 in his career. He moved from sixth place to third Saturday, passing Eric Zeier, Peyton Manning and Chris Leak.
NOTES
- Mizzou now leads the all-time series with Vanderbilt, 7-3-1.
- Mizzou is now bowl eligible for the second straight season and the second time in three years under head coach Barry Odom. Odom is one of just four coaches in Mizzou history – Don Faurot, Dan Devine and Warren Powers – to go to two bowl games in his first three seasons.
- Mizzou is now 8-2 in the month of November under Odom and has won seven straight November games dating back to 2016.
