Tigers will face 17 teams that qualified for the 2018 NCAA Tournament
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Softball has officially unveiled its 2019 schedule, announced Friday (November 2) by first-year head coach Larissa Anderson. The Tigers will play 56 total regular season games, consisting of 32 non-conference matchups and 24 Southeastern Conference contests. Following its regular season finale, Mizzou will head to the SEC Tournament, which will be hosted by Texas A&M in College Station, Texas.
All dates and times are subject to change. Further details on TV and radio coverage for select games this upcoming season will be announced at a later date.
Anderson didn't hold back putting together her first schedule for the Black & Gold, as the Tigers' first four non-conference tournaments consist of eight contests played against teams that qualified for the 2018 NCAA Tournament. That will be paired with a conference schedule in the nation's best league.
Mizzou opens its 2019 season in Tempe, Ariz., where the team will take part in the Kajikawa Classic (Feb. 8-10). Three of the Tigers' first five scheduled games in that tournament come against NCAA qualifiers, including host Arizona State and Oregon, who finished last season ranked seventh and sixth in the final NFCA Division I Coaches Poll, respectively.
The true gem of Mizzou's nonconference schedule, though, will come when the Black & Gold heads back to Cathedral City, Calif., to take part in the Mary Nutter Classic (Feb. 21-24). While there, Mizzou will face a five-team slate, all of which qualified for the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Three of those teams finished last season ranked in the Top-15: Arizona, which finished 11th, UCLA, which finished ranked third, and Washington, which finished ranked second courtesy of its runner-up performance in last season's DI Women's College World Series.
Mizzou will play in three other major non-conference tournaments, traveling to Orlando, Fla., to take part in Citrus Blossom Invitational (Feb. 15-17), heading to Louisville, Ky., for the Louisville Invitational (March 1-3) and hosting the Mizzou Tournament (April 5-7) in Columbia, Mo.
The Tigers open play at home in mid-March, when they host Georgia at Mizzou Softball Stadium in what will be the team's second conference series of the season (Mar. 15-17). Mizzou's other home SEC series include Tennessee (Mar. 30 – April 1), Texas A&M (April 18-20), and South Carolina (May 3-5), which will be the Tigers' final series before heading to the SEC Tournament. All four programs ranked Top-15 in the final NFCA Division I Coaches Poll a season ago.
Anderson's squad will open SEC play on the road, heading first to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to take on the Crimson Tide on the first weekend of conference play (Mar. 8-10). Other SEC road trips for the Tigers will include series against Kentucky (Mar. 22-24), Ole Miss (April 12-14) and Mississippi State (April 26-28).
Mizzou will compete in three Wednesday mid-week doubleheaders this season. The Tigers will host Bradley (Mar. 20), travel to Wichita State (April 3), while playing Illinois in St. Charles, Mo. (April 9). The Tigers will also play in two mid-week single games, as the Tigers will host both SEMO (April 23) and UMKC (May 1).
Chair back season tickets are available for $100 apiece, while general admission tickets are available for $65 (adults) and $50 (youth and seniors). Individual game general admission tickets are also available for $8 (adults) and $5 (youth and seniors).
