Middlebrooks and Nash Advance to Singles Round of 32 at ITA Central Regional

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Mizzou tennis team won a total of eight singles matches and one double match during day two of the 2018 ITA Central Region Championship Saturday at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex in Iowa City, Iowa.
Two Tigers, juniors Mackenzy Middlebrooks (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Serena Nash (Bradford, England) remain alive in the main singles draw, while Middlebrooks and sophomore Ellie Wright (Gainesville, Fla.) advanced to the round of 16 in doubles.
SINGLES
Middlebrooks and Nash, both of whom received first round byes, picked up singles wins in second round matchups. Middlebrooks earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory of Camila Romero of Oklahoma, while Nash easily defeated Minnesota's Caitlyn Merzbacher, 6-0, 6-1. The two Tigers advanced to the round of 32, where Nash will face Kansas State's Margot Decker and Middlebrooks will take on Kansas' Janet Koch.
Five Tigers earned wins in the first round of the main singles draw, as sophomores Wright, Marta Oliveira (Lisbon, Portugal) and Taylor Gruber (Spicewood, Texas) and freshmen Vivien Ábrahám (Budapest, Hungary) and Lisa Fukutoku (Tokyo, Japan), were all victorious Saturday morning. The five Tigers suffered losses in the second round and will play in the consolation bracket tomorrow.
Junior Gabrielle Goldin (Bradenton, Fla.), who suffered a first round loss, moved to the consolation draw, where she won her next match, 6-4, 7-6, over Janelle Wilson of Nebraska-Omaha.
DOUBLES
Middlebrooks and Wright won their second round match, 8-3, over Oklahoma's Alli Hodges and Skyler Miller. The pair will play Ashleigh Jacobs and Michelle Bacalla of Iowa Sunday morning in the doubles main draw round of 16.
