Middlebrooks and Wright Advance to Doubles Quarterfinals at ITA Central Regional

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Junior Mackenzy Middlebrooks (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and sophomore Ellie Wright (Gainesville, Fla.) advanced to the doubles quarterfinals at the 2018 ITA Central Region Championships Sunday at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex in Iowa City, Iowa.
DOUBLES
Playing in the round of 16 Sunday morning, Middlebrooks and Wright posted an 8-4 win over Iowa's Ashleigh Jacobs and Michelle Bacalla to advance to Monday's quarterfinals. The pair is 3-0 at the Regional and 6-2 overall in the fall season. They will face Tulsa's Arianna Capogrosso and Martha Matoula tomorrow at 9 a.m.
SINGLES
Middlebrooks and junior Serena Nash (Bradford, England) both suffered losses in the singles round of 32 on Sunday. Nash fought off elimination in the second set but ultimately fell to Margot Decker of Kansas State, 6-4, 6-7 (8-6), 6-3, while Middlebrooks lost to Kansas' Janet Koch 6-4, 7-6 (4).
Three additional Tigers picked up wins in extra singles matches during day three action, with sophomores Wright, Taylor Gruber (Spicewood, Texas) and Marta Oliveira (Lisbon, Portugal), all earning victories.
