TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Mizzou Football lost to No. 1 Alabama, 39-10, Saturday night (Oct. 13) at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Mizzou and Alabama were locked in a close game at the end of the first quarter, with Mizzou trailing 13-10, but a 17-point second quarter helped Alabama to the win. Mizzou falls to 3-3 on the year (0-3 SEC) while the top-ranked Tide improve to 7-0 and 4-0 in league games.
TURNING POINT
Despite a solid first quarter that saw Mizzou hang the most first-quarter points against the Tide this season while limiting the Tide to their fewest in an initial frame, things escalated quickly in the second quarter. After Mizzou QB Drew Lock found Jalen Knox for a 23-yard strike late in the first quarter, momentum seemed to be with the Tigers. Alabama then took the ball and went 75 yards in nine plays to take a 20-10 lead.
On the next possession, the Tigers faced a third-and-five deep in its own territory. Alabama's Isaiah Buggs broke through the line and sacked Lock, who fumbled on the play. The Tide recovered on the 19-yard line and scored a TD on the very next play to break the game open at 27-10.
That was part of a 17-0 second quarter in favor of the Tide that gave them the separation needed to win the game.
TOP TIGERS
- Freshman WR Jalen Knox hauled in three passes for 61 yards and his second career TD. Knox now has 280 yards in his initial collegiate season, which are already the most by a Mizzou true freshman since 2016 when Dimetrios Mason had 587.
- Senior DT Terry Beckner, Jr., finished with five tackles and extended his TFL streak to five straight games.
- Mizzou junior LB Cale Garrett tallied a season-high 12 tackles, just one shy of his career-high of 13, set against Texas is last year's Texas Bowl.
NOTES
- Mizzou limited Alabama to a season-low 39 points Saturday night.
- Mizzou now trails the all-time series with Alabama, 4-2. The Tide have won four in a row in the all-time series and all three meetings since Mizzou joined the SEC. This was the first ever meeting between the two teams in Tuscaloosa.
- Mizzou forced a first-quarter fumble on a strip sack, marking the 14th consecutive regular season game that Mizzou has forced a turnover.
