Sophie Cunningham secured her eighth career double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Women's Basketball (16-2, 4-1) led for the entire game as the Tigers routed Ole Miss 67-48 on Thursday night in Oxford, Mississippi. Mizzou's 16-2 start is its best start to a season in program history through 18 games. The Tigers improved to 5-0 in true road games, including 3-0 in league play. Mizzou dished a season-high 24 assists on 25 made field goals. Head coach Robin Pingeton's squad outrebounded the Rebels 52-28 and held Ole Miss to 16.7 percent shooting (3-of-18) from beyond the arc. Junior Sophie Cunningham scored a team-high 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while redshirt senior Jordan Frericks added 12 points and eight rebounds. Redshirt junior Lauren Aldridge dished eight assists, one shy of her career high and chipped in eight points in 34 minutes.
Turning Point
Mizzou raced out to an early led with unselfish offense and stifling defense. After an Ole Miss jumper at the 8:45 mark, Mizzou ripped off a dominant 17-0 run to push ahead 20-2 with 4:32 remaining in the opening quarter. Following a flurry of baskets from Frericks, Cunningham took over offensively. She scored down low in the paint and buried a pair of triples on the next two possessions to give Mizzou the 18-point advantage. Ole Miss would trail by double digits for the rest of the contest as the Tigers cruised to a 19-point road victory.
Top Tigers
- Amber Smith scored eight points and pulled in a career-best 12 rebounds. Smith has averaged 8.2 rebounds over the last five games. She has double-digit rebounds in two of the last three games. Smith also matched her career-high with three blocked shots.
- Cunningham collected her second double-double of the season and the eighth of her career with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Cunningham has reached 20 points in a game on 26 occasions in her career.
- Aldridge dished eight assists and committed just one turnover while scoring eight points. In the last two games she has a 14-to-1 combined assist-to-turnover ratio.
- Redshirt sophomore Hannah Schuchts matched her career-high with 12 points, sinking a career-best four triples in the process.
