COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou will continue its indoor season with its first meet of 2018, as the Tigers travel south to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Arkansas Invitational on Friday, Jan. 12. Mizzou will have 34 student-athletes from its distance and sprints event groups competing.
Track events from the Randal Tyson Track Center will begin at 3 p.m. (CT), with Mizzou first competing in the men's 600m run at 3:30 p.m. (CT). SEC Network + will provide a live stream of the meet, while live results will be available on flashresults.com.
Mizzou three-time National Champion, senior Karissa Schweizer (Urbandale, Iowa) will be among the notables to take the track in Fayetteville, as the Tiger senior will race in the 1000m run at 4:45 p.m. Just two weeks removed from the NCAA Cross Country Championships, Schweizer opened her indoor season on Dec. 2 at the BU Season Opener, where the six-time All-American recorded a first-place finish in the 5000m run with a time of 15:17.31. Schweizer's time reset her own school record, was the fifth-fastest indoor 5000m run time in NCAA history, and earned her the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week honor.
Junior Thomas George (Gloucester, England) will also take the track for the second time during the indoor season, as he runs in the mile run at 5:45 p.m. (CT). George joined Schweizer at the BU Season Opener, where the Tiger junior recorded the fourth-fastest indoor 5000m run time in program history with a time of 14:14.79.
A number of Tigers will be making their Mizzou debuts at the meet. For the men, freshman Austin Hindman (Wildwood, Mo.) and redshirt freshman Jacob Schweiss (St. Louis, Mo.) will be making their first appearance on the track for Mizzou, while freshman Richelle Bain (St. Louis, Mo.), freshman Shannon Browning (Burke, Va.), redshirt freshman Kiley Deain (Peculiar, Mo.), redshirt freshman Susan Forbis (Lewisville, Texas), redshirt sophomore Kayla Funkenbusch (Columbia, Mo.), freshman Kayla Glowacki (Naperville, Ill.), freshman Lexi Maddox (Riverside, Mo.), freshman Melissa Menghini (Fenton, Mo.) and freshman Jazmyn Shumaker (Cedar Hill, Texas) will all make their debuts in the Black & Gold for the women.
