COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou junior Giovanny Lima (Sao Paulo, Brazil) of the Mizzou men's swimming team recorded two top eight individual finishes and another runner-up relay finish at the 2018 Jose Finkel Trophy at the Esporte Clube Pinheiros in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The event, Brazil's short course national championship meet, ran Aug. 24-28.
Lima earned a pair of championship final appearances at the meet, playing sixth in the 400 free and eighth in the 200 free. He notched a 3:46.67 in the 400 free final, bettering his prelims time of 3:48.32. He also went 1:46.34 in the final of the 200 free after touching in 1:46.79 in prelims. Additionally, Lima swam the leadoff leg of the second-place 4x200 free relay team, posting a 1:46.12 in his 200 free as his relay went 7:08.69 overall.
The junior also earned finishes of 12th in the 200 fly (1:57.87) and 25th in the 800 free (8:21.57).
Lima enters his junior season after claiming All-America honorable mention honors as part of Mizzou's ninth-place 800 free relay team at the 2018 NCAA Championships. He ranks third all-time at Mizzou in the 200 and 500 free and seventh in the 200 fly.
