Golden PK Gives TCU 2-1 Double-Overtime Win Over @MizzouSoccer

COLUMBIA, Mo. – TCU converted a penalty kick in the 109th minute to pull out a 2-1 double-overtime win over the Mizzou soccer team Sunday night in Fort Worth, Texas. The Tigers fell to 2-3-1 with the loss, while the Horned Frogs improved to 5-1-0.

TURNING POINT

TCU broke the deadlock after it was awarded a penalty kick in the 109th minute. Junior keeper Kelsey Dossey (Plainfield, Indiana) guessed correctly on Allison Ganter's penalty but the shot soared a foot over Dossey's outstretched hands for the golden goal.

KEY MOMENTS

Mizzou took an early 1-0 advantage in the 11th minute when freshman Tess Rellihan (Kansas City, Missouri) and senior Savannah Trujillo (Kansas City, Missouri) combined for the game's first goal. Rellihan, who ran on to a lofted cross from Trujillo, took a touch in the box to elude her defender and poked a low shot to the left of the TCU keeper for her first goal in a Tiger uniform.

The Horned Frogs equalized on a second-chance opportunity in the 65th minute. A flick off a free kick caromed off the right crossbar and bounced in front of the net. TCU's Ganter tapped the rebound into the open goal for a 1-1 score.

QUOTABLES

Mizzou Head Coach Bryan Blitz
"I couldn't be prouder of the effort of our team from last Sunday to this Sunday. Credit to TCU for fighting back and scoring two goals. We'll take lessons from this. Now we're on to prepare for a really good Northwestern team."

MIZZOU NOTES

  • Freshman Tess Rellihan tallied her first career goal in the 11th minute.
  • Rellihan became the sixth different Tiger to tally a goal this season, as six different players have scored Mizzou's six goals.
  • Senior Savannah Trujillo recorded her second assist of the year on Missouri's goal.
  • Mizzou had a 7-5 edge in shots on goal.
  • All three of Rellihan's shots were on net.
  • Sophomore Anna Frick reentered the starting lineup after missing last weekend's two games due to injury. Frick, who saw action but did not start Friday's match against Southern Cal, led all Mizzou field players in minutes played last season as a freshman.
