@MizzouSoccer Earns Scoreless Draw at Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Mizzou soccer team earned its second consecutive shutout as the squad played to a double-overtime 0-0 draw against Oregon State in Corvallis, Oregon Friday evening. The Tigers went to 2-0-1 on the season, while the Beavers went to 1-0-2.

TURNING POINT

The Tiger defense held firm as the Beavers peppered Mizzou's goal with back-to-back-to-back shots in the 71st minute. A first attempt bounced off the left post before junior keeper Kelsey Dossey (Plainfield, Indiana) saved the rebound. Oregon State sent the ensuing rebound back toward goal but redshirt sophomore defender Payton Goulding (Woodbury, Minnesota) cleared the shot at the goal line.

KEY MOMENTS

Sophomore Sarah Luebbert (Jefferson City, Missouri) and freshman Bella Alessi (Fort Collins, Colorado) combined for Missouri's best scoring opportunity of the match. Alessi threaded a perfect pass to Luebbert at the right post. Luebbert's one-timer bounced off a Beaver defender before falling to the goalkeeper, who cleared the ball.

QUOTABLES

Mizzou Head Coach Bryan Blitz
"Oregon State gave us all we could handle. That's one of the reasons we came out here, to get tested, and (Oregon State) did that. I was really proud of our team to get a point on the road in an overtime game. People stepped up and our depth was really a key for us today. We learned what we learned today and we move on to see a great Nebraska team."

MIZZOU NOTES

  • With 110 minutes of scoreless soccer, Mizzou lowered its goals against average to 0.31
  • The Tiger defense also notched its second shutout in a row, as the team also blanked Iowa State on Aug. 20
