Days Two and Three
Yesterday we spent the school day with grade R learners (kindergarten students) getting to experience their classroom setting, help set up and cleanup the classrooms, and play with the children during recess hours. Today, half of our group spent the day painting a new classroom area for the literacy center and the other half worked on repainting a race track and hopscotch for the outdoor play area. Our group finished our transformation of a new classroom in the literacy center by assembling desks and putting the final touches on the inside. Meanwhile another group finished a new play area for the kindergarten students. Later we were able to have recess with the kids pushing them on swings, dancing with them and playing handshake games. We also were able to repaint the inside of the school hall as well as put a fresh coat on the outside of the building. We are having so much fun being around all the kids and really enjoying getting to contribute to their facilities that help out the local community!
