#24 @MizzouSoftball Drops Series Opener at #1 Florida

Tigers mustered only one hit against Gators pitching Saturday afternoon

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – No. 24 Mizzou Softball (11-9) fell 6-0 in its series opener at No. 1 Florida on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers lineup was shut down all day long against Gators LHP Delanie Gourley, as she threw a complete game shutout with 10 strikeouts.

Mizzou was held hitless heading into the 7th inning, but freshman Braxton Burnside (Paragould, Ark.) broke through with her team-leading seventh double of the season.

The Tigers only managed three total baserunners Saturday, as Gourley consistently baffled the Mizzou hitters. Mizzou's top scoring opportunity occurred in the 7th, following junior Amanda Sanchez's (West Covina, Calif.) leadoff walk and Burnside's double. The Tigers couldn't capitalize with two runners in scoring position and no outs, as the next three batters were retired in order.

Despite the loss, sophomore RHP Danielle Baumgartner (Mexico, Mo.) was fantastic in the circle in relief, firing 2.2 shutout innings to complete the game. Baumgartner has shined specifically over her past five appearances, producing a 0.57 ERA with 12 strikeouts over 12.1 innings pitched.

Hear From the Tigers

Baumgartner on her stellar relief work in the circle…

"I was locating well today and able to change speeds effectively. Being able to drop in my change-up when I wanted really kept the Florida hitters on their heels."
