Sophomore Emma Allen leads the Tigers with first round 69
TUCSON, Ariz. – After a competitive first round, the Tigers are T-5th at the MountainView Collegiate. The Tigers are 4-over-par (292) as a team, a mark that put them in the middle of the pack. Mizzou hung tough with some of the best competition in the nation, as this weekend features two top 25 programs in No. 20 Arizona and No. 23 Oklahoma, as well as two top 50 programs in No. 42 UNLV and No. 44 Kansas State.
The Tigers were led by sophomore Emma Allen (Southampton, England), who shot an impressive first round 69. Allen played a great back nine, shooting a 33 courtesy of birdies on holes 11, 12 and 18. T-3rd after the opening round, Allen will hope to keep her momentum going into round two.
In the second slot of the Tigers' lineup was freshman Jessica Yuen (Bolingbrook, Ill.), who recovered from a triple-bogey beautifully during her first round of play. Though only a first-year collegiate golfer, Yuen showed poise beyond her years as she stayed calm and turned in a 34 on the front nine. Barring another bad hole.
Junior Clara Young (North Berwick, Scotland) was in the third slot for Mizzou following round one, shooting a steady 75, good enough to give her a share of 25th place individually. She was consistent all day long, playing 14 of 18 holes at even par.
Following Young, senior Jessica Meek (Carnoustie, Scotland) carded a 75 opening round. She notched three birdies over her round, but also shot two bogies and two double bogies to dilute her better performances.
In the final competitive slot was sophomore Cayce Hendrickson (Benton, Ky.), who shot a first round 78. The round placed her in a tie for 57th overall.
Mizzou's individual participants, sophomore Amanda Kim (O'Fallon, Mo.), freshman Cherise Otter (Bloomington, Ind.) and redshirt sophomore Mackenzie Perez (Ranchos Palos Verdes, Calif.) all saw live action in round one. Kim is tied for 25th after shooting 2-over par, Otter shot an 81, while Perez carded a first round 85.
