Mizzou’s top sprinters to toe the line at the Hearnes Center
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Track & Field will host its second indoor meet of the season, the Missouri Collegiate Challenge on Friday, Feb. 17, at the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse. More than 30 Tiger athletes will be in competition, as the meet will serve up as the final tune-up before the Tigers start postseason competition at the SEC Championships, Feb. 24-25, in Nashville, Tenn.
The meet will begin with field events at 1:30 p.m., followed by track events at 3 p.m.
Mizzou's sprinters will highlight the competition for the track events. For the women, senior LaQuisha Jackson (Chattanooga, Tenn.) will run in the 60m dash and 400m dash, while sophomore Maya Cody (St. Louis, Mo.) will toe the line in the 200m dash. Jackson, the school record holder in the indoor 60m and 200m dash, currently holds the meet record in the 60m dash after running a 7.33 at the 2015 meet.
For the men, five Tigers will race in the 60m dash, including sophomore Kahmari Montgomery (Plainfield, Ill.) and redshirt Niager Mathis (Philadelphia, Penn.), who currently rank ninth and tenth in program history in the 60m dash at 6.86 and 6.89, respectively.
In the field events, three Tigers who earned first place finishes at the Missouri Invitational on Jan. 20, will once again be in competition Friday at the Hearnes. Redshirt sophomore Gabi Jacobs (Bloomington, Ill.), who placed first in the shot put at the Missouri Invitational with a throw of 14.43m (47-4.25), will compete in the shot put once again. After posting a top-mark of 13.40m (43-11.75) in the shot put last season, Jacobs has posted five throws of over 14.00m this season. Redshirt freshman Rebecca Keating (Reading, England) and redshirt freshman Patrick Kunza (Wentsville, Mo.) will each defend their Missouri Invitational first place finishes in the weight throw.
