@MIZ_TrackField Opens Indoor Season by Hosting Missouri Holiday Opener

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Track & Field will officially open its indoor season Friday when it hosts the Missouri Holiday Opener at the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse. More than 30 Tigers will be making their season debut, including nine Tigers who will make their collegiate debut in the Black & Gold.

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Track & Field will officially open its indoor season Friday when it hosts the Missouri Holiday Opener at the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse. More than 30 Tigers will be making their season debut, including nine Tigers who will make their collegiate debut in the Black & Gold.

Field events will begin the meet at 2 p.m. (CT), while track events are slated to begin at 3 p.m. (CT) and will continue with a rolling schedule. Five teams will be compete on Friday, as Mizzou will be joined by Avila, Columbia College, McKendree and Missouri State.

Among the field entries for Mizzou who will make their season debuts are three NCAA Outdoor Championships West Preliminary qualifiers. Redshirt junior Gabi Jacobs (Bloomington, Ill.) and redshirt freshman Emily Stauffer (Reinholds, Penn.) will compete in the shot put, while junior Karissa Roman (Kewanee, Ill.) will compete in the high jump. Stauffer will also throw the weight throw Friday. Jacobs will be looking to build off a breakout sophomore campaign where she earned All-America honors and captured a conference title in the discus during the outdoor season.

The shot put event will be Tiger-heavy Friday, as Mizzou has four entries on the men's side, and six for the women. For the men, redshirt junior Avery Carter (Lee's Summit, Mo.), freshman Jason Edwards (Eldon, Mo.), redshirt junior Will Fife (Jefferson City, Mo.) and senior Rauno Liitmae (Estonia) will all throw for the men. For the women, Jacobs and Stauffer will be joined by freshman Megan Haley (Lancaster, Mo.), freshman Jordan Speer (Dighton, Kan.), sophomore Allie Webb (Platte City, Mo.) and freshman Blair Widmer (Columbia, Mo.).

In track events, Mizzou's veteran leadership will lead the way, as redshirt senior Jerrad Mason (Bridgetown, Barbados) and redshirt senior Jonathan Holder (Trinidad & Tobago) will each run three times. Mason will take the start line in the 600m run, 200m dash and 4x400m relay, while Holder will run in the 60m dash, 200m dash and 4x400m relay. For the women, redshirt senior Valeska Halamicek (Weldon Spring, Mo.) and redshirt junior Tsai-Anne Joseph (St. Augustine, Trinidad & Tobago) will each be in action as Halamicek runs in the 500m run, and Joseph in the 60m dash.
