Tiger middle blocker garners third consecutive All-American award
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Volleyball junior Alyssa Munlyn (Suwanee, Ga.) was named a 2017 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American, announced Wednesday (Dec. 13) by the organization's office.
Munlyn joins Lisa Henning and Carly Kan as Tigers with three all-time AVCA All-American honors. The Tiger middle blocker has received Honorable Mention All-American accolades in three consecutive seasons.
Mizzou has now accumulated 20 all-time AVCA All-Americans, all coming under Wayne Kreklow and Susan Kreklow's tenure in Columbia, Mo. (2000-present). The Tigers have tallied at least one All-American winner in eight consecutive seasons.

"We're very happy and proud of Alyssa," Coach Kreklow said. "She has worked very hard and the results showed this year. I personally feel she was deserving of higher recognition, but there's a lot of elite players out there and it's a tough group. Alyssa had a fantastic year and was a great teammate and leader for us. I believe she's going to have an even better season next year."

Munlyn was one of the Southeastern Conference and nation's top middle blockers over her 2017 junior campaign. Her 189 total blocks, 159 block assists and 1.44 blocks per set each established new individual Mizzou single-season records. Offensively, Munlyn's .381 hitting percentage was the sixth-highest individual total in Tiger history.
The Suwanee, Ga., native reset personal single-season highs with 277 kills, 189 total blocks and 386.5 points. Munlyn's incredible .444 hitting mark in SEC matches ranked first among conference competitors, playing a key piece into her 1,000th career point late in the season.
Nationally, Munlyn ranked Top-5 in total blocks, Top-20 in blocks per set and Top-30 in hitting percentage. Entering this weekend's NCAA Championship contests, she places Top-5 overall in the SEC in hitting, solo blocks, block assists, total blocks and blocks per set.
Munlyn recorded five double-digit total block matches this season, highlighted by her pair of 13 total block contests against BYU (Sept. 1) and Arkansas (Nov. 19). The impressive performances matched the Mizzou all-time individual match total blocks record.
Over the 2017 campaign, Munlyn garnered three SEC Defensive Player of the Week awards, improving her career SEC weekly honors to 10. She also received her third-straight AVCA Southeast All-Region and All-SEC awards in the recent weeks.
