2017 Postseason Guide
COLUMBIA, MO. – Mizzou Cross Country continues an exciting slate of postseason competition this Friday (Nov. 10) as both the men and women will compete in the NCAA Midwest Regional in Ames, Iowa. The women will run a 6K race beginning 10:45 a.m. while the men will follow with a 10K race at 11:45 a.m. The women will look to repeat as Regional Champions after winning the event in Iowa City, Iowa, a year ago.
The top-two finishing teams at the meet will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships, which will be held Nov. 18, in Louisville, Ky. Last season, the Mizzou women's team returned to the NCAA meet for the first time since 2004.
The Mizzou women's team is coming off its best performance of the season at the SEC Championships, where the team finished fourth despite losing its second-best runner early in the race. Three Tigers set personal records at the meet, and seven of Mizzou's top-20 6k times this season were recorded in the race.
Senior Karissa Schweizer (Urbandale, Iowa) will get a chance to run in her home state as she looks to win the individual title for a second straight year. Last month, Schweizer won her second consecutive SEC title, finishing more than 30 seconds ahead of the runner-up. On Wednesday, the Tiger senior was named the SEC Women's Runner of the Year for the second straight season following three meets wins and a second-place finish at the Pre-National Invitational. Also running for Mizzou will be senior Jamie Kempfer (Festus, Mo.), who earned NCAA All-Midwest Regional honors a season ago with a fifth-place finish.
On the men's side, Mizzou will be led once again by redshirt sophomore Thomas George (Gloucester, England), who paced the Tigers at the SEC meet for the fourth straight time this season. George recently set his 6k personal record at the Pre-National Invitational (Oct. 14), where he crossed the finish line at 24:12.4. Finishing just behind George at the SEC meet was freshman Austin Hindman (Wildwood, Mo.), who ran his best collegiate race to-date, finishing 39th overall with a time of 25:04.8. The Junior World Triathlon Champion will be in uncharted waters once again, as he will race his first collegiate 10k on Friday.
