Tigers take fourth at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in Jonesborough
JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. - Mizzou Men's Golf battled to a fourth-place at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate over the weekend, powered by senior Hayden Buckley's second career individual championship and second title of his senior campaign. Shooting a combined 18-under-par, head coach Mark Leroux's Tigers rebounded from a shaky start in Round One. Mizzou shot all the way as high as second on the event's team leaderboard in Round Two, only to reluctantly yield to Kent State and Louisville in Round Three
Buckley (Belden, Miss.) put on a clinic at the tournament, shooting 17-under-par (68-64-67 – 199) on his own to secure his second individual championship in the three events he has played this season. Buckley added three more rounds under-par to his season tally of six, including a truly remarkable second round 64, which set another career-low, and tied the low of the entire tournament. Buckley also shattered his previous low event record, carding a 199 over three rounds on the Blackthorn Club.
Following Buckley was freshman Jamie Stewart (Renfrewshire, Scotland), who played well in his own right. The freshman tied for 15th place, shooting a solid 4-under-par (72-71-69 -- 212). Stewart has remained consistent this season, and has yet to finish outside the Top-30 at any event, despite being new to the college game.
Sophomore Rory Franssen (Inverness, Scotland) finished third among Black & Gold golfers, and took a share of 25th place (71-68-76 – 215) in Jonesborough. Franssen again showed flashes, carding scores of 71 and 68 over his first two rounds.
Finishing in the fourth and fifth slots for Mizzou were freshman Jack Parker (Columbia, Mo.) and junior Matt Echelmeier (Columbia, Mo.). Parker shot a 6-over-par, which tied for 51st, individually. Echelmeier, meanwhile, shot a 233 for the tournament, placing him tied for 80th.
Mizzou next heads to Kauai, Hawaii, for the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational from Oct. 29-31.
