
@MizzouTennis Gears Up for Trip Through Utah

COLUMBIA, Mo.- Mizzou continues its season opening 10-match road trip with a swing through Utah to finish out the week. The Tigers will face a pair of undefeated squads in Utah State (3-0) on Wednesday and BYU (1-0) on Friday, with both matches set to begin at 12 p.m. C.T. The matches will conclude a demanding stretch for Mizzou as the Tigers look to complete four dual matches in just six days. Mizzou (1-1) took down Old Dominion (2-1) on Sunday, 4-1, before falling to No. 8 California (2-0) on Monday.
TIGERS EMBRACE TOUGH TEST AT ITA KICK-OFF WEEKEND
- Mizzou faced a tough test in its first two matches of the spring season, facing Old Dominion and No. 8 California.
- Mizzou head coach Colt Gaston earned his first career victory as a head coach when the Tigers defeated Old Dominion on Sunday, 4-1.
- Freshman Tate Schroeder (Centennial, Colo.) showed her toughness, finishing the weekend a perfect 2-0 including another victory with her doubles partner, senior Cassidy Spearman (Laguna Niguel, Calif.). Schroeder and Spearman have now won four straight doubles matches together and boast a 4-1 record this year.
- Junior Brianna Lashway (Bradenton, Fla.) had a very strong weekend in singles play despite both of her matches being abandoned due to teams clinching dual wins while her matches were still in progress. Lashway was locked in an intense contest with Cal's No. 17 Karla Popovic on Monday, forcing the first set into a tiebreaker before falling in a 12-10 tiebreaker set. Lashway still holds the best singles record on the team at 8-2.
- Junior Clare Raley (Atlanta, Ga.) had a phenomenal season debut on Sunday, winning her singles and doubles matchup against Old Dominion. She now has four singles victories this year.
STRONG FALL SEASON
- Mizzou Tennis returns for its 2017 season following its historic 2016 season in which the team won 16 matches, the fourth most in school history.
- The team has five players returning, with a combined 293 wins between them, for this season.
- Mizzou kicks off its spring season following its strong performance in the Big Green Invitational. The team won 23 matches in the tournament with all eight Tigers winning at least three matches.
- The team finished its fall season with 59 total victories, including an impressive 41 wins in singles play.
- In doubles play, Mizzou had five different doubles pairings finish the fall season with winning records. The pairing of junior Amina Ismail (Maineville, Ohio) and senior Bea Machado Santos (Lisbon, Portugal) led the team with a doubles record of 6-2 and reaching the semi-finals of the ITA Central Region Tournament.
- Machado Santos became the fifth Tiger since 2012 to compete in the ITA All-American Championships in Los Angeles, Calif. (Oct. 5, 2016)
- Mizzou was clutch in tiebreaker sets throughout the fall, finishing off the season by winning 10 of 12 tiebreaker sets in the Big Green Invitational.
SCOUTING UTAH STATE
- The Aggies are a perfect 3-0 this season including a pair of resounding 7-0 victories against North Dakota and Lewis-Clark State College. Utah State also defeated Southern Utah in a much closer 4-3 match.
- Utah State boasts an unblemished 9-0 record in doubles play this spring season.
SCOUTING BYU
- BYU has played only one dual match this season, an impressive 7-0 victory over Weber State in Provo, Utah. The Cougars won all six of their singles matches and two of their three doubles matches in the win.
- BYU's No. 1 singles player, Mayci Jones, started her season strong with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Weber State's No. 1 singles player.
