Mizzou’s No. 20 receives recognition from the Southeastern Conference
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Mizzou Men's Basketball's latest Allstate® SEC Basketball Legend is a familiar face and voice to supporters of the Tigers and basketball fans across the Southeastern Conference. All-time great Jon Sundvold and 13 other representatives from the SEC's member institutions will be honored at the SEC Men's Basketball Tournament (March 8-12) at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn.
A native of Blue Springs, Missouri, Sundvold starred on four conference championship-winning squads (1980-83) during his time wearing the Black & Gold, winning a total of 100 games across four campaigns that each resulted in NCAA Tournament berths. A superior perimeter shooter prior to the three-point line's establishment in college basketball, Sundvold finished his career with 1,597 points which ranked second in program history, at the time.
Fans remember Sundvold so fondly for many reasons. A focal point of legendary head coach Norm Stewart's program, Sundvold's name dots Mizzou's record book, as he is still ranked second all-time for career free throw percentage (.848), sixth for field goals made (628) and seventh for assists (382). The former Tiger All-American (1983) also holds the school record for minutes played at 4,289.
His No. 20 jersey was promptly retired at the conclusion of his collegiate career, which was followed by a nine-year NBA career with stops in Seattle, San Antonio and Miami. Sundvold was inducted into Mizzou Athletics' Hall of Fame in 1990.
Residing in Columbia, Missouri, permanently since retiring from the NBA, Sundvold has served as a color analyst for ESPN since 1994. Putting his Bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Missouri to good use, he also launched Sundvold Financial, an advisory firm.
Sundvold has worked extensively on SEC Network men's basketball broadcasts since the channel's launch prior to the 2014-15 season, traveling throughout the Southeastern Conference to share his unique insights on the game of basketball.
Sundvold and his wife, Tamara, have three children; Wilson, Caroline and Anna Kate. Wilson played golf for the Tigers from 2011-16, and Caroline is a current member of Mizzou's Golden Girls.
The 2017 class also includes George Linn, Alabama; Oliver Miller, Arkansas; Marquis Daniels, Auburn; Matt Bonner, Florida; Jimmy Pitts, Georgia; Keith Bogans, Kentucky; Tasmin Mitchell, LSU; Jason Harrison, Ole Miss; Dontae' Jones, Mississippi State; Bobby Cremins, South Carolina; Ron Slay, Tennessee; Acie Law IV, Texas A&M; Barry Booker, Vanderbilt.
