Kan tallied two double-doubles in Tigers' SEC opening matches
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Mizzou Volleyball senior outside hitter Carly Kan (Honolulu) was named Week 5 Southeastern Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week, as announced Monday by the SEC office.
Monday afternoon's honor marked Kan's first recognition by the SEC office this year. She tallied three weekly conference honors in 2015, including Offensive Player of the Week accolades twice and an overall Player of the Week award once. Kan has accumulated five career SEC weekly honors during her tenure at Mizzou (2013-present).
Kan was sensational on offense and as an all-around player in the Tigers' opening two SEC matches of the season. Mizzou claimed a pair of 3-0 victories this past week, defeating South Carolina (Sept. 21) and Ole Miss (Sept. 25) at the Hearnes Center.
The Honolulu native posted a double-double in each match last week, marking her team-leading fifth and sixth double-double this year. Kan's six double-doubles this season are T-5th in the SEC.
In Mizzou's SEC season-opening match against South Carolina, Kan recorded 10 kills on .375 hitting with 14 digs. Four days later at the Hearnes Center, she posted 12 kills on season high .522 hitting and 10 digs.
Overall, Kan finished with 22 kills and only one attack error over the two-match stretch. Her sensational .447 hitting percentage at outside hitter upped her season hitting mark by .025 percentage points.
Mizzou (11-3, 2-0 SEC) looks to extend its six-match winning streak this weekend on the road. The Tigers will travel to Arkansas on Friday, Sept. 30, followed by a road trip to LSU on Sunday, Oct. 2. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. (CT) and 1 p.m. (CT), respectively. Fans can tune in to SEC Network for both conference matchups.
