Hess Scores Twice as @MizzouSoccer Wins 3-1

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Junior Allie Hess (Kearney, Mo.) tallied two goals to lead the Mizzou soccer team to a 3-1 win over Weber State Sunday afternoon at Walton Stadium in Missouri's non-conference finale. Senior Rachel Hignett (Llandough, Wales) also scored for Mizzou in the match.

The win improved the Tigers' record to 6-3-0 overall on the season, while the Wildcats fell to 2-4-1.

Hess scored twice midway through the second half for her third and fourth goals of the season, with all four of her scores coming in the last five games. She also added an assist on Mizzou's third goal on Sunday to up her season points total to nine, second-best on the team.

Mizzou peppered the Weber State defense with 25 shots, including 13 on goal, both season highs.

After failed chances early, the Tigers broke through on a set piece in the 21st minute. Junior Savannah Trujillo (Kansas City, Mo.) lofted a corner kick to the far post. Hess one-timed a shot toward goal that grazed off a Wildcat defender and into the net for a 1-0 Tiger advantage.

Weber State pulled a goal back three minutes later. Mizzou sophomore keeper Kelsey Dossey (Plainfield, Mo.) tipped a shot off the crossbar but the rebound fell to Paige Stevens, who volleyed the loose ball over Dossey's head.

Three minutes after the Wildcats evened the score, Hess struck again with the eventual game-winner. The junior intercepted a Weber State pass in Mizzou's offensive third and dribbled toward the box. She uncorked a left-footed 20-yard strike into the upper right netting that left the Wildcat keeper helpless. The tally was Hess' fourth goal of the season and fifth of her Tiger career.

Missouri's offense continually threatened in the second half but could not break through with another score until the 72nd minute of action. Hess dribbled into the box and laid a ball off to senior, who one-timed a low left-footed shot past the Wildcat goalie and into the lower right netting. The tally was the second of the season and career for Hignett.

Dossey recorded three saves in goal for the Tigers.

Mizzou returns to the pitch on Thursday, Sept. 22, as the team hosts Kentucky at 6:30 p.m. at Walton Stadium. The match will be broadcast live on SEC Network +.
