Mizzou held its first practice of fall camp on Thursday
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Football took to the Kadlec Practice Fields behind the Mizzou Athletic Training Complex on Thursday afternoon (Aug. 4) for the first official practice of 2016 training camp. At 3:50 p.m. as players began to hit the fields, Accuweather had the heat index at 109 degrees, making for a warm August practice in Mid-Missouri. But excitement filled the air as position groups gathered for individual workouts before moving to the team portion of practice.
The heat didn't stop the team, which practiced in the first of two hemet only practices. Luckily for the players, the helmet choice for camp was the white stormtrooper helmet featured in last year's BYU game, a departure from the traditional black helmets, which likely would have been much hotter than the whites.
After a stretching period, the position groups broke apart in front of nearly 30 media members, who took in the first hour of practice. After position drills, the team portion of practice began and TE Kendall Blanton made the play of the day during 7-on-7, catching a Jack Lowry pass over the top of the defense in a sprawling, one-handed dive on the hash marks for close to a 30-yard gain.
A spirited 11-on-11 followed and practice ended with some special teams work. Below is social media footage from day one.
