Tigers went perfect 7-0 in its matches
COLUMBIA, Mo. – In late May, Mizzou Volleyball made its long trek to Beijing, China, for an unforgettable 13-day trip. While overseas, the Tigers competed against top Chinese competition during the week and visited historic landmarks on the weekends.
The weekend sightseeing certainly provided a majority of the memories, but the trip to China also gave Mizzou an excellent opportunity for offseason volleyball training. For six of the 13 days, the Tigers squared up against top local programs.
Mizzou kicked off its matches on Monday, May 16, against Henan Sports University. The Tigers' opening match was a big success, as they claimed a 3-0 sweep. On Tuesday, Mizzou had its first of two consecutive doubleheaders. The Tigers responded well with a 3-0 sweep over Beijing Sports University and 3-1 victory against Beihang University.
Wednesday provided two more matches, as Mizzou maintained its success with a 3-1 win over Beijing Sport University and 3-1 triumph over Central University of Finance and Economics. The Tigers concluded their first week of matches with a 3-1 victory against Beihang University.
Mizzou's final match occurred on Monday, May 23, and it walked away with a 3-2 win over Beihang University. The Tigers looked to be in regular season form, finishing their 2016 China Trip with a perfect 7-0 record.
"I've taken teams over to China a couple times now and its talent pool and style of volleyball always provides a great challenge," head coach Wayne Kreklow said. "I was real pleased with how our group of ladies worked together each match. This is a key piece in our offseason training and provides a great challenge before preseason practice in August."
"Playing against the Chinese teams was such a fun experience and I'm so thankful for this opportunity," senior Julia Towler said. "We obviously couldn't verbally communicate with them very well, but it was fun to see how we all shared the same love of volleyball. They showed us a different style of play and that could really help us out heading into this season."
