Towler becomes the fourth Mizzou Volleyball player/coach to be tapped
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Volleyball junior Julia Towler (Blue Springs, Mo.) was tapped on Friday by the Friars Chapter of Mortar Board inside Jesse Auditorium. The Friars are a senior honor society recognizing students who excel intellectually, are passionate about serving the Mizzou and Columbia communities and have proven strong leadership during their time at the University of Missouri.
The Friars are one of Mizzou's six secret societies. Towler and the other new Taps were formally revealed to the community during Friday afternoon's 2016 Tap Day.
"It's such an honor to be recognized as someone who brings a positive light to the community," Towler said. "Students who are tapped are honored for their service, leadership and commitment to Mizzou. I'm so blessed to be one of the 15 chose for Mortar Board this year."
Towler becomes the fourth member of the Mizzou Volleyball family to be tapped into the exclusive society. The Blue Springs, Mo., native joins head coach Wayne Kreklow (2006-pres.), Lydia Ely (2012-14) and Lisa Morris Diven (1998-2002).
"We are so proud of Julia's accomplishments and special day today at the University of Missouri," head coach Wayne Kreklow said. "Julia is the definition of a successful student-athlete and exemplifies all of the 'Mizzou Made' characteristics. The Mizzou Volleyball program has had a great tradition with these outstanding societies and Julia will certainly serve as a wonderful representative of the Mortar Board."
