The Tigers will take on the two-day meet in Fayetteville starting Friday
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Track & Field is back on the road this week after hosting the successful Tom Botts Invitational in Columbia last weekend. The Tigers will make the quick trip down to Fayetteville, Arkansas, for the second time this season to take on the John McDonnell Invitational on Friday and Saturday (April 22-23).
This weekend marks the turn into the latter part of the regular season for the Tigers, with only two more meets left until the SEC Championships in Tuscaloosa, Alabama (May 12-14). The men and women now look toward qualification into the NCAA Championships Preliminary Round, which accepts the top 48 marks in the west region for each event from throughout the outdoor season. Already, 35 Tigers are in qualifying position into the first round of NCAA Championship competition.

#MIZTF LAST TIME OUT
The Tigers are coming off a two-meet weekend, as the majority of the team remained in Columbia to host the Tom Botts Invitational while a small group of mid-distance and distance specialists made the trip to Walnut, California, for the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays. Between the two meets, the Tigers collected 13 event wins, 26 personal record marks, and 15 All-Time Top Ten performances, including a new women's 4x100m relay school record.
- This has been a redefining year for the women's sprint group, as they reset the 4x400m record twice throughout the indoor season and are now looking to lower the outdoor record for the fourth time this season alone. But, after the Tom Botts Invitational this past weekend, the 4x400m record board is not the only one undergoing some serious changes, as the foursome of freshman Maya Cody, junior LaQuisha Jackson, and seniors Alyssa Felton and Jacqueline Obi dipped well-under the 28-year-old 4x100m record with their 44.80 finish. The previous top time of 45.02 had been held by Angela Montroe, Natasha Kaiser-Brown, Felecia Allen, and Lorinda Richardson since the 1988 Drake Relays.
- Other key performances from the Tom Botts Invitational include the 10.14 performance in the 100m dash from senior Markesh Woodson. Although not wind-legal for a personal record, the time does move Woodson up into the sixth spot in the current NCAA rankings.
- Freshman Kahmari Montgomery returned to the 400m dash for the first time since his NCAA Indoor Championship performance on Saturday, defending his home track with a 46.47 finish. The Indoor SEC Champion in the event put himself in the top-20 of the national rankings heading into the final portion of the regular season, and sits at No. 4 on the All-Time Top Ten performance list.
- In the men's triple jump, sophomore John Warren continued to climb in the rankings for the men's triple jump, hitting the No. 13 jump in the country with his season's best 15.81m (51-10.50).
- The Mt. SAC Relays competitors also turned in some exciting marks, including a top-ten nationally ranked 5000m run from sophomore Karissa Schweizer. Schweizer cut over 30-seconds off of her previous PR in the event with her 15:58.09 crossing, taking 12th in the elite invitational field, third among collegians. She now owns the No. 3 time in school history, and ranks eighth in the NCAA.
- On the men's side, senior Will Crocker also laid down a big PR, crossing in 3:42.30 in the elite invitational 1500m. Although he placed third in the field, he was the first finisher for the collegians in the race, and now ranks 12th in the NCAA.
- Finally, junior Teylar Adelsberger hit her second consecutive PR in the women's 3000m steeplechase with a 10:12.39 finish. That time, the second-fastest in school history, puts Adelsberger in the top-20 of the national rankings.
#MIZTF NOTES
Events at the John McDonnell Invitational will begin on Friday afternoon with a series of field event competitions. Junior Tanner Buschmann and freshman Will Fife will be first up in the men's discus, followed by freshman Gabi Jacobs in the women's discus. The men's and women's long jump and the women's high jump competitions will round off the first day's action for the black and gold. The meet will resume Saturday morning with the men's hammer, and will continue into the evening with track events kicking off at 2 p.m.
- Freshman Kahmari Montgomery will be back in the blocks for his second 400m dash of the season. The freshman is coming off a spectacular indoor season, highlighted by an SEC title and one of the top ten times in the world (45.78).
- Senior Markesh Woodson enters as the top-ranked collegian in the men's 100m dash field, after his 10.14 performance at last weekend's Tom Botts Invitational put him at sixth in the current NCAA rankings.
- In the men's triple jump, the duo of senior Tony Carodine and John Warren will look to continue their climb through the national rankings. Warren currently sits at No. 13 in the NCAA, No. 5 in the west region, followed closely by Carodine at No. 15 and No. 7, respectively.
- Junior Reinhard Van Zyl is slated to take to the javelin runway for the first time this weekend since his 74.54m (244-7) performance two weeks ago at Georgia's Spec Towns Invitational. Van Zyl currently holds one of the top ten marks in the NCAA for the event.
- The men's and women's 1500m run fields will feature quite the Mizzou contingent, including senior Sam Dickerson, junior Ollie Lockley, and junior Dan Roe on the men's side. Among the group of Tigers highlighting the women's field will be junior Teylar Adelsberger and sophomore Karissa Schweizer.
- Adelsberger and Schweizer are both coming off personal record performances at Mt. SAC over the weekend, with Adelsberger moving into the No. 2 position in the Mizzou All-Time Top Ten for the 3000m steeplechase (10:12.39), and Schweizer hitting the third-fastest 5000m time in school history (15:58.09).
- The women's sprints group will look to continue their record-breaking streaks, with squads set to take the track in both the 4x100m and 4x400m fields.
- Junior LaQuisha Jackson will be back in the 200m dash for the first time since her Olympic-qualifying performance (23.10) at the Florida Relays last month.
- Other names to look out for in the women's field include senior Alyssa Applebee, who continues to work toward owning both the indoor and outdoor school records in the pole vault; senior Sandrae Farquharson in the 400m dash; the pair of hurdle-specialists, senior Alyssa Felton and junior Valerie Thames; and freshman Rebecca Keating in the women's hammer.
