Miklus and Synon Named MAC Distinguished Scholar Athletes

Miklus given the honor for the second time, Synon the first in his career
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Two Mizzou Wrestling student-athletes, redshirt sophomore Willie Miklus (Altoona, Iowa) and redshirt junior Zach Synon (Cary, Ill.) were named Mid-American Conference Distinguished Scholar Athletes, announced by the conference office on Friday. In all, 202 student-athletes from eight MAC winter sports during 2015-16 academic season were given the "best of the best" honor, selected by the MAC. Miklus and Synon were each selected to the Academic All-MAC Wrestling team in March.
The Distinguished Scholar Athlete Award is given to second-year student-athletes who maintained a 3.20 GPA or higher and competed in at least 50 percent of the team's events. Distinguished Scholar Athletes from each sport were equivalent to the number of first-team selections or 33% of nominees, whichever was greater.
Miklus, who maintained a 3.40 GPA in Psychology, was given the honor for the second straight season. The Iowa native finished the 2015-16 season as an NCAA All-American for the second straight season, finishing in sixth place at 184 pounds in the national tournament. Synon recorded a 3.50 GPA in Business Administration and qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the second time in his career this season.
