Mizzou to compete in doubleheader vs. Grambling State and New Orleans on Tuesday
BATON ROUGE, La. – No. 59 Mizzou Tennis (13-7, 1-6 SEC) dropped a Southeastern Conference match, 7-0, to No. 15 LSU (16-6, 5-3 SEC) on Sunday morning at the LSU Tennis Complex in Baton Rouge, La. Junior Bea Machado Santos (Lisbon, Portugal) and junior Brittany Lashway (Bradenton, Fla.) each won a set in singles play, but end up dropping the decisive third set.
In doubles play, LSU took the point following wins at the No. 2 and 3 positions. Santos and sophomore Brianna Lashway (Bradenton, Fla.) led, 5-4, at the No. 1 position before play was stopped due to the doubles point being determined.
In singles play, Santos faced off against No. 19 Joana Vale Costa at the No. 1 position. Vale Costa won the first set, 6-2, before Santos, ranked No. 73, grabbed the second set, 6-4. Vale Costa took the tiebreaker set to clinch the match. Hine, at the No. 2 position, caused a tiebreaker in the first set to Jessica Golovon, but end up dropping the set, 7-6, before falling, 6-1, in the second set. After falling 6-3 in the first set, Brittany Lashway took the second set, 6-2, over Skylar Kuykendall before falling in the third set, 6-1.
Mizzou continues its Louisiana tour with a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 29. Mizzou will face Grambling State and 10 a.m. and New Orleans at 3 p.m.
