Mizzou drops match 7-0, faces No. 15 LSU on Sunday
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – In the first of two Southeastern Conference road matches against top-20 teams, No. 59 Mizzou Tennis (13-6, 1-5 SEC) dropped its match against No. 17 Texas A&M (12-6, 4-3 SEC), 7-0, on Friday evening at the Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas.
Mizzou led in two matches in doubles play, leading 2-1 at the No. 2 and 3 positions, before dropping matches at the No. 1 position, 6-1, and No. 2, 6-4. Mizzou's No. 3 team of junior Cassidy Spearman (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) and junior Brittany Lashway (Bradenton, Fla.) led Texas A&M's team of Ines Deheza and Domenica Gonzalez, 5-4, when play was halted due to the Aggies winning the doubles point.
In singles play at the No. 1 position, junior Bea Machado Santos (Lisbon, Portugal), recently ranked No. 72 in the nation, pushed No. 32-ranked Saska Gavrilovska to a grueling first set, where Gavrilovska won the first set 7-5, before taking the second set, 6-4. At the No. 6 position, sophomore Clare Raley (Atlanta, Ga.) led for the majority of the first set against Eva Paalma, before falling in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
Mizzou will continue its SEC road trip with a match against No. 15 LSU on Sunday morning in Baton Rouge, La. The match is slated to begin at 11 a.m. CT.
