Puryear and Rosburg Post Big Games, @MizzouHoops Falls at Alabama, 80-71

Tigers drop road result to Crimson Tide, back in action Wednesday at Vanderbilt (8 p.m.)

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Two Tigers recorded career-high point totals, but Mizzou Men's Basketball (8-15, 1-9 SEC) could not score enough in the final minutes to overcome Alabama, falling 80-71, Saturday afternoon at Coleman Coliseum. Freshman forward Kevin Puryear (Blue Springs, Mo.) scored a season-high 22 points, while senior forward Ryan Rosburg (Chesterfield, Mo.) scored a career-high 17 points.

Puryear reached 20 or more points for the second time this season and the first time since scoring 20 points in his Tiger debut in Mizzou's season-opening win over Wofford (Nov. 13). Rosburg scored in double digits for the third time this season, recording 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field. Rosburg also had a team-high seven rebounds in the game

The Tigers used a 10-4 run in the first half to pull even with Alabama, 14-14, at the 12:32 mark. Puryear sparked the run with five points, while a three-pointer from freshman guard Cullen VanLeer (Pacific, Mo.) tied the score. The score was tied once more at 16-16, but the Crimson Tide outscored the Tigers 24-12 from that point and took a 40-28 lead into the break.

In the second half, Rosburg scored 10-straight points for the Tigers between the 9:10 and 6:34 mark, but the Crimson Tide continued to keep a steady advantage. Head coach Kim Anderson's group refused to go out easily, pressing Alabama down to just a seven-point lead with less than one minute remaining. Two final free throws for Alabama set the final score of 80-71.

Mizzou next travels to Nashville, Tenn., to face Vanderbilt on Wednesday, Feb. 10. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT and will be televised on the SEC Network.
