Hine and Santos remain perfect in doubles action as the Tigers improve to 8-1
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Tennis (8-1) defeated BYU (1-4), 5-2, Friday afternoon at the Mizzou Tennis Complex to finish out the week with two wins in three matches. The Tigers were led by standout performances from junior Bea Machado Santos (Lisbon, Portugal) and senior Kelli Hine (New Braunfels, Texas), who each picked up two wins on the day.
In doubles action, Mizzou's No. 2 team of junior Cassidy Spearman (Laguna Nigel, Calif.) and sophomore Brianna Lashway (Bradenton, Fla.) defeated Nicolette Poulsen and Brittanie Erosa, 6-3 to start the Tigers off on the right foot. The Tigers' No. 1 team of Hine and Santos defeated Mayci Jones and Tobi Miclat, 6-3, to clinch the double point for the Tigers. With the win, the duo improves to 7-0 in spring play.
The Tigers picked up four wins in singles play, earning straight set victories from Santos, Hine, junior Brittany Lashway (Bradenton, Fla.) and freshman Turner Yates (Jackson, Miss.). With the win, Hine continued her perfect start to the spring season, improving to 9-0 in singles play, while Santos improves to 8-1. Brittany Lashway's 6-1, 6-0 win over Savannah Ware clinched the victory for Mizzou.
The Tigers will hit the road for its next six matches, beginning with two on Friday, March 19. First, Mizzou will face Savannah State at 10 a.m. in Savannah, Ga., followed by a matchup with Mercer in Macon Ga. at 5 p.m.
