@MizzouHoops Comes Up Short Against Davidson, 70-55

Tigers see first big performance from freshman Reed Nikko with 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting

ORLANDO, Fla. - In the consolation semi-finals of the Tire Pros Invitational, Mizzou Men's Basketball (1-2) dropped Friday morning's contest, 70-55, to Davidson (2-1) at the HP Field House. The Tigers were led by sophomore forward Kevin Puryear (Blue Springs, Mo.), who scored 12 points (5-10 FG, 2-3 FT) and grabbed five rebounds.

Sophomore guard Cullen VanLeer (Pacific, Mo.) chipped in 11 points (two shy of his career-high), sinking three shots from beyond the three-point arc, one triple off his career-high.

The Tigers fell behind by as many as 17 points through the first eight minutes of the game, but fought back to cut the lead to five points at 28-23 with 5:15 remaining in the first frame thanks to a 14-2 run. Freshman forward Reed Nikko (Maple Grove, Minn.) fueled the run for Mizzou, scoring six points on three close makes around the basket.

Nikko finished the game with 10 points on 5-of-6 field goal shooting for his first career double-digit scoring outing. The big man also recorded one block.

Davidson opened up a larger lead again in the second half, and the Tigers once again attempted a comeback, cutting the lead to 11 at 58-47 with 3:34 left in the game. The comeback effort was not enough, however, as the Tigers fell short, 70-55.

Mizzou will matchup with the loser of Arizona State and Tulane Sunday in its final game of the Tire Pros Invitational. Tipoff from the HP Field House is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. CT (ESPN3).
