Jennifer Meredith joins the Tigers after two years as an assistant at UConn
COLUMBIA, MO. – Mizzou Tennis head coach Colt Gaston named Jennifer Meredith the program's new assistant coach, it was announced Friday. Meredith joins the Tigers' staff after two seasons as an assistant for the University of Connecticut's women's tennis squad and a successful playing career at the University of Tennessee.
"We're very excited to have Jennifer join our program," Gaston said. "Her experience playing in the Southeastern Conference really stood out to me. Her passion for the SEC and desire to be a coach in this conference is exactly what the team and I were looking for in an assistant coach and we can't wait for her to get started."
Meredith helped guide the Huskies to their best record in 10 years during the 2014-15 campaign. In her two years on staff, UConn won 25 total matches, earned its first postseason victory in program history and received ITA All-Academic Team recognition. Additionally, Meredith was instrumental in drawing international recruits to UConn for the first time in program history.
"I want to thank Colt Gaston, Mary Austin and Jim Sterk for this amazing opportunity," Meredith said. "I am thrilled to be joining a first class university and athletic department. Colt brings a wealth of knowledge from both his playing and coaching background and I am looking forward to working alongside him every day and becoming a part of the Mizzou family."
Meredith shined as a player at the University of Tennessee, racking up 55 singles wins and 81 doubles victories during her illustrious career. A three-time SEC Player of the Week and two-time team captain for the Lady Vols, she provides valuable experience leading, competing and succeeding in the talented league.
Following graduation, Meredith became a United States Professional Tennis Association certified instructor. For three years, she served as a private instructor and led lessons and teaching clinics at various tennis clubs across the country before entering the coaching ranks in 2014 at Connecticut.
Meredith joins the Tigers in the heat of the fall season, which continues at the ITA Central Regional in Minneapolis, Minn., from Oct. 13-17. Mizzou launches its spring campaign against Old Dominion on Jan. 29.
