The Missouri Tigers (2-6 overall, 0-4 in Southeastern Conference play), head to Columbia, S.C., where they'll take on the South Carolina Gamecocks (4-4, 2-4) at Williams-Brice Stadium. Kickoff for Saturday is set for 3 p.m. central/4 p.m. eastern time, with the game being televised on the SEC Network.
Mizzou is looking to break the chains of a losing streak that reached four games last Saturday, as the Tigers fell at home to Kentucky by a 35-21 count. The Wildcats had a pair of 3rd down plays that went for touchdowns of 60 and 65 yards in the first half on the way to a 21-0 lead. The Tigers mounted a rally, pushing to within 21-7 at half, and continued the momentum as they took the opening kick of the second half to a first-and-goal, only to see the drive stall, and a 24-yard field goal attempt miss wide right. Kentucky scored twice more to push the game out of reach, but Mizzou answered with consecutive TDs of its own in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring.
South Carolina comes into the game riding a two-game win streak, including an upset win at home last week against then-#18 Tennessee, 24-21. In that game, South Carolina's defense held a potent UT offense to just 297 yards of total offense, and gave up only two scores, as one of Tennessee's touchdowns came on a 100-yard kickoff return. The Gamecocks have additional wins this season at Vanderbilt (13-10, Sept. 1st), and at home against East Carolina (20-15, Sept. 17th) and UMass (34-28, Oct. 22nd).

Mizzou had a pair of players - CB Logan Cheadle and LB Eric Beisel - earn their first career starts last week vs. Kentucky. The 24 first-year starters are the second-most in the nation and five ahead of the next-closest SEC team, which happens to be this Saturday's opponent South Carolina. The list at right details schools with the most first-year starters in the nation. The list does not include specialists, but if it did, it would move Mizzou's total to 26 with first-year K Tucker McCann and first-year holder Jake Brents making the cut.
Mizzou has also started four true freshmen this season, the fifth-most in the nation. South Carolina leads the nation with seven.
