COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Softball hosted Central Methodist and Crowder College on Friday evening at University Field, claiming two more victories in its 2016 Fall campaign. The Tigers defeated Central Methodist in game one, 11-1, followed by a 4-1 victory against Crowder College in game two.
Game #1
In game one of the doubleheader, the Tigers struck early and often, putting up five runs in the first three innings combined. Mizzou added five additional runs in the fifth inning, pushing its already comfortable lead up to 10.
Sophomore Amanda Sanchez (West Covina, Calif.) got the ball rolling for Mizzou, with a solo home run in the first inning. Sanchez and sophomore Regan Nash (Camden Point, Mo.) both had a game-high three hits and two RBIs apiece.
Freshman Parker Conrad (Winter Park, Fla.) and sophomore Danielle Baumgartner (Mexico, Mo.) pitched a gem, holding Central Methodist to just one run, which was scored on an error in the fifth inning.
Conrad earned the win with 4.0 shutout innings and two strikeouts. Baumgartner came in and pitched 3.0 relief innings, striking out seven batters and closing out Mizzou's impressive 11-1 victory.
Game #2
After the offensive outburst in game one, Mizzou followed that up with a closely contested 4-1 victory in game two.
Nash produced the Tigers' only RBI, as they came back from an early one-run deficit. Mizzou took the lead in the second inning, following consecutive fielding errors by Crowder College.
In the circle, senior Cheyenne Baxter (Norborne, Mo.) and redshirt sophomore Madi Norman (Tipton, Mo.) combined to give up only one run on three hits.
