Luebbert's Scores Twice as @MizzouSoccer Defeats Vanderbilt, 2-1

Freshman Sarah Luebbert scored her eighth and ninth goals of the season

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Freshman Sarah Luebbert (Jefferson City, Mo.) tallied both Tiger goals to propel the Mizzou soccer team to a 2-1 win over Vanderbilt Friday night at Walton Stadium. The goals marked Luebbert's eighth and ninth scores of the season.

The Tigers improved to 10-4-1 overall and 5-2-1 in Southeastern Conference play with the win, while the Commodores fell to 8-6-1 and 4-3-1.

With her two goals, Luebbert upped her season point total to 21, the most for a Mizzou player since Alysha Bonnick notched 21 points in 2010. Additionally, she now ranks tied for third on Mizzou's all-time freshman goals list with nine and fourth on the freshman points list with 21.

Luebbert put the Tigers on top early with her first tally in the 14th minute. The freshman received the ball at midfield, headed it over a Vanderbilt defender and dribbled into the left side of the box. She raced right at the Commodore goalie and slotted a low right-footed strike to the keeper's right and into the back of the net for a 1-0 Missouri advantage.

In the 52nd minute, Vanderbilt was awarded a penalty kick when Missouri was whistled for a handball in the box. Commodore Kaylann Boyd poked her shot to the left of Mizzou sophomore keeper Kelsey Dossey (Plainfield, Ind.) for a 1-1 match.

The Tigers responded only seven minutes later as Luebbert struck again with the game-winning goal. Junior Kaitlyn Clark (Liberty, Mo.) stole the ball from the Vanderbilt defense and raced into the box. She found a wide open Luebbert on the right side, who calmly chipped a shot over the Commodore keeper. The assist was Clark's team-leading sixth of the season.

The Tigers enjoyed a 19-5 advantage in shots, including an 8-2 edge in shots on goal.

Dossey made one save in net to secure the win.

Mizzou returns to the field on Thursday, Oct. 20 when the squad travels to Fayetteville, Ark., to face No. 12 Arkansas at 7 p.m. CT.
