- Mizzou Football (2-3 overall, 0-2 SEC) will make its third trip to 'The Swamp' to take on Florida (4-1, 2-1 SEC) on Saturday (Oct. 15) at 3 p.m. (CT) on SEC Network. Saturday's game marks the second consecutive contest in which Mizzou will play in an SEC team's homecoming game after doing the same on Oct. 1 at LSU. Mizzou is coming off of a bye last week, but dropped its last contest at LSU, 42-7. Florida was scheduled to play LSU last Saturday, but Hurricane Matthew forced the postponement of the game. Florida most recently played at Vanderbilt and grinded out a 13-6 win.
- Mizzou leads the all-time series against Florida, 3-2, including a 1-1 mark in Gainesville. The two contests in Gainesville have been memorable. In the first meeting between the two as SEC foes in 2012, Florida escaped with a 14-7 win, scoring 14 unanswered points in the second half. The Gators won the game despite earning just 11 first downs and just 276 total yards. Four interceptions hurt Mizzou in that game as the Gators came out +3 in the turnover battle. The last meeting between the two teams in Gainesville in 2014 may be the most memorable game in the series for Mizzou fans. The Tigers claimed a 42-13 win over the Gators despite gaining just 119 yards on 49 plays (2.4 yards per play). Mizzou used a pair of kick return TDs (one kickoff, one punt) and also returned an interception and fumble for TDs, opening a 42-0 lead midway through the third quarter. The Tigers had just seven first downs but scored their most points against an SEC foe that season, earning their second consecutive SEC East Championship.
- Saturday's matchup pits the SEC's top pass-rushing team against the league's top pass-blocking team. Mizzou's offensive line has allowed just three sacks all year, the top mark in the SEC and the sixth-best nationally. Florida averages 3.80 sacks per contest, a mark that ranks second in the SEC and seventh nationally. It is also a battle of the SEC's top pass offense (Mizzou) and the SEC's top pass defense (Florida).
WEEK 7 STORYLINES
- As Mizzou comes off its bye week looking ahead to Florida this Saturday, it is important to know that Mizzou is 3-2 following a bye week since joining
the SEC for the 2012 season. However, Mizzou has lost its last two games following a bye week - last season a 31-13 loss at home to Mississippi State and in 2014 to Georgia at home in a 34-0 defeat. Mizzou last played a road game following a bye week in 2013 when it defeated Ole Miss, 24-10, in Oxford en-route to the SEC East Championship. Mizzou had two bye weeks in 2013, winning following both of those idle Saturdays. In 2012, Mizzou earned a 33-10 win over Kentucky following its bye week. - Since joining the SEC, Mizzou is 13-12 against its rivals in the SEC East, including a 7-5 mark in road contests against the SEC East. Mizzou leads the series with Florida, 3-2.
- Mizzou has converted an impressive 45.5% of its third down chances this season, a mark that ranks fourth in the SEC and in the top 40 nationally. Mizzou also ranks third in the SEC and 23rd nationally in total first downs. But those two areas of offense will be put to the test on Saturday as Florida ranks first in the SEC and 11th nationally in third down defense while allowing just 72 first downs, the second-best mark in the SEC. That mark also ranks in the top 20 nationally.
