No. 14 @MizzouGym Hosts Pink Out Friday Against No. 9 Georgia

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The No. 14 Mizzou gymnastics team returns to Mizzou Arena for the second year in a row as the squad hosts No. 9 Georgia on Friday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. CT in the annual Pink Out meet. $1 from every ticket sold will go to the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center.
PROMOTIONS
- The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a free pink t-shirt and pink glow necklace
- The first 250 fans will receive the first set of Mizzou gymnastics trading cards.
- There will be a Mizzou gymnastics apparel sale on the Mizzou Arena north concourse, with proceeds going toward the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center
TIGER TIDBITS
- The meet will be aired live on SEC Network + with Meredith Hoenes and Sasha Sander calling the action.
- Freshman Britney Ward earned SEC Specialist of the Week honors after claiming both the vault (9.925) and beam (9.900) titles at Alabama with career best scores.
- The Tigers remain steady at 14th in the national rankings after a strong showing at Alabama on Jan. 15.
- Mizzou notched a season best 196.050 in its SEC opener on Jan. 15. The Tigers also had season highs on two events (49.075 on beam and 49.025 on vault).
- In addition to Ward's two event wins, freshman Morgan Porter claimed the all-around victory with a 39.200.
- Through three meets in 2016, the Tigers have notched 28 individual scores of 9.8 or higher, compared to 16 through the first three meets of 2015.
- The Tigers opened 2016 with a 195.350-195.075 win over No. 15 Illinois on Jan. 8. The score tied the program record for highest opening meet team total in program history. The 2004 squad also opened its season with the same score.
- Against the Illini, Mizzou recorded a 49.175 on bars, the team's highest score on the event since midway through the 2014 season.
- Two days later, Mizzou traveled to Lindenwood and notched a 195.200-192.000 win over the Lions.
- Head Coach Shannon Welker enters his third season at the helm of the Tiger program. Welker led Mizzou to the nation's biggest improvement in 2015, as the squad finished 21st in the national rankings after coming in 41st at the end of the 2014 campaign.
- Youth will be served in 2016, as over half (eight) the 15-person roster are freshmen. Additionally, 12 of the team's gymnasts are freshmen or sophomores in 2016.
- Georgia is ranked ninth in the nation with scores of 196.775, 195.750 and 195.200 on the year. The Gymdogs also rank third in the country on vault with an average score of 49.267 and a high of 49.500.
- The Tigers will face a tough schedule once again, with regular season matchups against seven teams ranked in the preseason coaches poll top 10.
