FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – No. 24 Mizzou Women's Basketball (15-3, 2-3) was defeated 64-52 by Arkansas (8-10, 3-2) Sunday afternoon at Bud Walton Arena. Sierra Michaelis (Mercer, Mo.) led all scorers with 18 points, including four 3-pointers.
Michaelis drained three shots from beyond the 3-point arc in the game's first 5:08. Mizzou held a 17-12 lead after the first quarter. The Tigers were 5-for-9 from long range during the first 10 minutes.
Arkansas outscored Mizzou 20-9 in the second quarter to hold a 32-26 halftime advantage. Mizzou connected on only one of 10 field goal attempts during the second period while the Razorbacks converted 10 of 13 free throws during the quarter to take the lead.
The Tigers answered back with a strong third quarter, outscoring Arkansas 16-11 and closing the period on a 7-0 run over the last 2:09 to make it a 1-point game heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
In the fourth quarter, the Razorbacks earned a 21-10 scoring advantage to close out the game.
For the game, Mizzou shot 31 percent (16-for-51) from the field, 30 percent (8-for-26) from 3-point range and 75 percent (12-for-16) at the foul line. Arkansas shoe 32 percent (16-for-50) from the floor, 30 percent (3-for-10) from beyond the arc and 74 percent (29-for-39) from the free throw line. The Tigers were outscored 18-8 in points in the paint, 21-10 in points off of turnovers and 12-4 in second-chance points.
Cierra Porter (Columbia, Mo.) added 14 points and six rebounds for Mizzou. Jordan Frericks (Quincy, Ill.) finished with six points, six rebounds, a season-high three assists and two blocks. Sophie Cunningham (Columbia, Mo.) notched six points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Jessica Jackson led Arkansas with 15 points and six rebounds. Alecia Cooley recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds while Melissa Wolff added a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.
The Tigers return to action at No. 15/11 Texas A&M on Thursday with a 7 p.m. CT tipoff on SEC Network Plus/WatchESPN.
