Junior guard Clark scores career-high 26 points, dishes out season-best eight assists

COLUMBIA, S.C. - After falling behind by 13 points in the first half, Mizzou Men's Basketball (8-9, 1-3) used a 10-0 first half run to get within striking distance, but could not finish the comeback, dropping an 81-72 result to No. 19 South Carolina (16-1, 3-1) on Saturday. For the third time this season, junior guard Wes Clark (Detroit, Mich.) reset his career-high point total, recording 26 points on 10-of-16 shooting.

Mizzou shot 49.1 percent  (28-of-57) from the field in the game, its best shooting performance in Southeastern Conference play and fourth-best overall of the season.

Clark led the Tigers in points, rebounds  and assists, contributing six boards and eight dimes to go along with 26 points. Clark's eight assists were a season-high and the most since he dished out nine assists against Oral Roberts on Nov. 19, 2014. Senior forward Ryan Rosburg (Chesterfield, Mo.) joined Clark in double-digits with 12 points on perfect 6-of-6 shooting from the field. Sophomore forward D'Angelo Allen (Dallas, Texas) had eight points and six rebounds in 14 solid minutes off the bench.

The Gamecocks scored the first eight points of the game, but a jump shot from Allen with 6:22 left in the half cut the Gamecocks' lead to three at 27-24. The jumper capped a 10-0 run for the Tigers fueled by four points from Allen and three-pointers from Clark and  sophomore guard Namon Wright (Los Angeles, Calif.). Thirteen of Clark's 26 points came in the first half as the Tigers trailed by seven, 41-34 at the break.

The Tigers cut South Carolina's lead to four early in the half after a jumper from Wright made the score 41-37 with 18:20 left in the game. Wright had nine points and three assists in the game. A layup from Rosburg off an assist from Allen cut the deficit to six with 7:19 remaining in the game, but Mizzou could not get any closer as South Carolina grinded out a a nine-point victory, 81-72.

Mizzou continues SEC play with Georgia at Mizzou Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 20. The game will be televised live on the SEC Network and is slated to tipoff at 6 p.m. CT.
