Tigers are now 14-2 overall and 1-2 in the SEC
COLUMBIA, S.C. – No. 20 Mizzou Women's Basketball (14-2, 1-2) was defeated 83-58 by No. 2 South Carolina (15-0, 3-0) on Sunday afternoon in front of 15,934 fans at Colonial Life Arena, the most to ever watch a game in program history. Cierra Porter (Columbia, Mo.) led the Tigers with 10 points and seven rebounds while Sophie Cunningham (Columbia, Mo.) and Jordan Frericks (Quincy, Ill.) each added nine points.
"Give South Carolina all the credit," head coach Robin Pingeton said. "They are a really good team. We've got to do a better job taking care of the ball and having poise. I thought we did a good job on the boards."
For the game, South Carolina shot 42 percent (24-for-57) from the floor while the Tigers shot 31 percent (18-for-58) from the field. Mizzou shot 86 percent (18-for-21) at the foul line but went only 4-for-21 from 3-point range. The Gamecocks held a 39-37 rebounding edge.
The Tigers were outscored 17-5 in the first quarter as the Gamecocks featured an up-tempo offensive attack.
At halftime, the Gamecocks held a 35-17 lead. During the first 20 minutes, South Carolina outscored Mizzou 18-4 in the paint. The Tigers shot only 19 percent (6-for-31) from the floor during the first half. Porter grabbed five first-half rebounds (three offensive) for the Tigers while Frericks pulled down four boards in the first half.
Mizzou opened the third quarter on a 10-2 run to pull within 10 at 37-27 over the first three minutes into the second half. South Carolina answered back by outscoring Mizzou 19-7 over the last seven minutes of the third to take a 56-34 lead into the fourth period.
In a competitive fourth quarter, South Carolina outscored Mizzou 27-24 to seal the game.
Tiffany Mitchell led the Gamecocks with 19 points. A'ja Wilson recorded a double-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks and Alaina Coates also notched a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
The Tigers return home on Thursday, Jan. 14 with a 7 p.m. CT tipoff vs. No. 7/6 Mississippi State on SEC Network Plus/WatchESPN.

POSTGAME NOTES
- Mizzou is now 1-4 all-time against South Carolina and 0-2 at Colonial Life Arena.
- The Tigers' streak of three straight SEC regular season road wins was snapped. It was the first SEC road loss for Mizzou since Feb. 12, 2015 at Alabama.
- Cierra Porter has grabbed at least seven rebounds in three of the last four games.
- Sophie Cunningham fouled out with 6:51 remaining the in the game. It marked the first time she has fouled out during her career.
- The crowd of 15,934 was the most to witness a game in program history, topping the previous mark of 13,595 at Nebraska on Feb. 27, 2010.
- Mizzou wore gold uniforms for the first time during the 2015-16 season on Sunday.
