FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Mizzou women's sprints squad continued their record-breaking season in a big way on Saturday (April 23), departing the John McDonnell Invitational with a pair of school records and two new All-Time Top Ten performances.  It was a PR day across the board for the Tigers, who departed Fayetteville with a total of 23 PR's, 12 All-Time Top Ten marks, and five event wins over the two days of competition.

The momentum started on Friday evening, as a group of Tigers kicked the meet off with competitions in the field events.  Highlighting the evening's performances was freshman Gabi Jacobs, who extended her PR in the discus by over eight feet with a 53.24m (174-8) PR performance.  Jacobs entered the weekend ranked fifth in the Mizzou record books, and now departs at No. 3 All-Time, just behind recent grads and All-Americans Kearsten Peoples and Jill Rushin.

The record pace was continued into Saturday, as the women's 100m hurdles kicked off track events with a pair of wind-aided bests from junior Valerie Thames and senior Alyssa Felton.  Thames crossed in fifth for the preliminary heats in 13.41, a school record had it not been for the wind-reading.  Felton was just behind with a wind-aided 13.49.

Both returned later in the afternoon for the final in the event and, taking advantage of the improved conditions to clock another set of record times.  Thames led the way for the pair, blowing past the previous school record, held by Pam Page since 1980, by 0.19-seconds with her 13.29 finish.  Felton also moved up the All-Time Top Ten list, running the third-fastest time in school history with her 13.60 PR.

The women's 4x100m relay also notched a new leading mark in Mizzou history, finishing second in the field in 44.54.  This is the second consecutive record time for the group of freshman Maya Cody, junior LaQuisha Jackson, and seniors Alyssa Felton and Jacqueline Obi, who timed through with a school record during last weekend's Tom Botts Invitational (44.80).

Jackson returned a little while later, timing through with her first outdoor 400m dash as a Tiger.  Her 54.03 crossing earned her fifth place in the field, and put her at No. 5 in the Mizzou All-Time Top Ten.

In the men's sprints, senior Markesh Woodson took on his third 100m dash of the outdoor season, dropping 0.05-seconds for a new PR.  His 10.13 finish is the second-fastest in Mizzou history and put him second in the elite field, first for collegians.

The men's 400m dash saw the return of freshman Kahmari Montgomery, who took to the blocks on Saturday for only his second start of the season in the event.  His winning time of 46.00 knocked nearly a half-second off of his mark from last weekend's Tom Botts Invitational, and is the second-fastest time in Mizzou history.

In the women's 1500m, Karissa Schweizer made her first appearance since her 15:58.09 performance in the Mt. SAC 5000m run last weekend.  The sophomore came through with a big win on Saturday with the second-fastest performance in school history, timing through in 4:17.47.  Junior Teylar Adelsberger and sophomore Nicole Mello closed in the top ten of the field, also earning new PR's of 4:26.20 and 4:39.11, respectively.

Saturday's field events also saw several exciting finishes, including a new PR in the pole vault from freshman Matthew Ludwig.  Ludwig placed first in the field with a top bar of 5.30m (17-4.50), tying him with Kyle Wessel at No. 3 in the Mizzou All-Time Top Ten.  He was joined in the field by sophomore Luke Darrough, who also finished with a new PR after making a final height of 4.75m (15-7).

In the women's pole vault, junior Alyssa Applebee led the Tigers with a seventh place finish, jumping just off of her PR at 4.04m (13-3).  Also closing at 4.04m (13-3) was freshman Rayce Albino, who moved into the No. 4 spot in the Mizzou record books with the PR.  Freshman Bri Gibbs continued her move up through the history books, as well, with her PR of 3.89m (12-9).

In the men's javelin, the duo of sophomore Alex Pascal and junior Reinhard Van Zyl found themselves back at the top of the results, finishing first and second in the field, respectively.  Pascal's final toss of 73.52m (241-2) was good to not only move him into first place, but also earned him a new PR as the fourth-best throw in Mizzou history.  Van Zyl, who led the field for the majority of the competition, closed out with a top throw of 71.52m (234-8).

The Tigers now look to the final meet of their regular season with the Memphis Invitational (April 29-30).  For the latest on Mizzou Track and Field, stay tuned to MUTigers.com and follow the team on Twitter @MIZ_TrackField.
